Old Salt

With the ever-present possibility of gale-force winds and driving rains coming at them from every direction, sailors have always faced the danger inherent in their livelihoods with courage, strength and endurance. These character traits are evident in the classic image of the sailor clad in impenetrable rain gear standing alongside a ship's wheel, ready to take on whatever Mother Nature has in store. The title "Old Salt" came to represent only a sailor of great experience and fortitude with years battling the elements, making him a seaman worth his "salt."
