Fine Used Cars
America's automobile manufacturers responded to World War II by switching from car to armament production. By the war's end in 1945, these same manufacturers could only offer versions of their pre-war 1942 models. Yet, the pent-up postwar demand was sending car sales to all-time highs. No wonder, then, that the sale of used automobiles as seen in this 1940s image also surged. By 1949, as technological advancements and engineering practices were being fine-tuned, automobile styling and design would become an all-important marketing consideration in the highly competitive auto industry. Chrome, fintails and bullet lenses vied for attention. One of these American classics was the 1959 Cadillac Series 62 that boasted fins over one foot high!
