Federal League Park

The ballpark located at Clark and Addison Streets was originally owned by Charles Weeghman, and home of the Chicago Whales. The Whales were members of the Federal League, a third major league which made its debut in 1913 and lasted only two seasons. When the the Federal League folded for financial reasons after the 1915 season, Weeghman purchased the Cubs from the Taft family of Cincinnati and moved the club to his ballpark in Chicago, which was re-named Cubs Park. William Wrigley Jr. took control of the team in 1921, and the park was again re-named in his honor. Being the second oldest ballpark in the major leagues, Wrigley Field is esteemed by baseball fans for its ivy walls, open-air stadium and grass playing-field. In a time when many vintage ballparks have been torn down and replaced, Wrigley Field remains a rare and cherished sight.
