Chicago Stadium

The Chicago Stadium at 1800 West Madison Street opened in 1929 and was designed by the architectural firm of Hall, Lawrence and Ratcliffe. At the time of its opening, the Stadium was the largest indoor sports arena in the world. The stadium was used for a variety of purposes, including religious revivals, political rallies and jazz festivals, until the addition of an ice floor made it the permanent home of the Chicago Blackhawks hockey team. The Stadium was also home to the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball League. The Bulls and Blackhawks moved to a new home in 1994, when the historic stadium was demolished and replaced with the United Center.
