The Lions in Winter

Whoever said "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb" never experienced early spring in Chicago. This snow scene appears indicative of a typical January or February day on South Michigan Avenue. But because winter weather in the Windy City has been known to occasionally linger past the third week in March, the two lion sculptures outside The Art Institute of Chicago could very well be feeling the chill well into April, or even May! In 1910, a total of 6.5 inches of snow fell from April 22nd through April 26th, with 2.5 inches falling on April 25th alone. In fact, on May 11, 1996, some neighborhoods in the Chicago metropolitan area received more than two inches of snow. So much for the lamb.
