North on Franklin

The Chicago Sun Times published its first issue in 1949. At the time of its publication, the U.S. had only 48 states, one household in 40 had a TV, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average was 175. Since Vol.1, No. 1, the newspaper has been a vital part of Chicago's dynamic city life. Currently, the Sun Times' headquarters is located between Rush Street and Wabash Avenue, on the north bank of the Chicago River. At the time of this photograph, the paper's offices were located on the southeast corner of Franklin Street and Wacker Drive.
