Bears vs. Packers

The rivalry between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers, the National Football League's longest, began on November 27, 1921 when the Bears (then known as the Staleys) shut out the Packers 20-0 at Wrigley Field (then known as Cubs Park). During the game, Staleys guard, John "Tarzan" Taylor punched Packers tackle Howard "Cub" Buck in the face, breaking his nose. Five years later, Buck returned the favor by fracturing a Chicago player's arm during the Packers' first win over the Bears. Some sports pundits credit these incidents with fueling the animosity between the teams and their fans that remains to this day. Others believe that it was the "win at all cost" attitudes of team founders George "Papa Bear" Halas and Earl "Curly" Lambeau. Whatever the case, one thing is certain: these two franchises and their rivalry represent everything that is great about competitive sports: intensity, tradition and mutual respect.
