Belmont Ave. Station

Belmont Ave. Station

Photographed here on March 8, 1962 is the Belmont Avenue "El" station, where two elevated track lines, the North-South line & the Ravenswood line, intersect. In 1900, service began on the Northwestern Elevated line operating between Wilson Ave. and Lake Street. Eight years later, construction of the Ravenswood "El" had been completed which serviced the West Lake View area. These two lines merged at the Belmont above-ground station, shown here. In the 1990s, the CTA re-named all of its transit lines, using colors that any rider could easily understand. Today, the North-South line is the "Red Line," and the Ravenswood line is known as the "Brown Line."
