Foursome

"Foursome" play is a match where two golfers compete on a team against two other golfers. Each side plays one ball, with the golfers on each team playing alternate shots until the hole is played out. Tee shots are also alternated between the team players with one hitting tee shots on even-numbered holes and the other teeing off on the odd-numbered holes. The team with the lowest score on a given hole is given one point. This type of scoring is known as "match play," and unlike "stroke play," the team with the most points wins. One of the best known match play tournaments is the Ryder Cup. What began in 1927 as a competition between the United States and Great Britain, the Ryder Cup is now a premier sporting event.
