Traffic Jam

As the 20th century advanced, the use of motor vehicles grew, and Chicago's boundaries spread outward. In 1917, the Chicago Motor Company began motor bus service, using mainly boulevard routes. Its network soon encompassed 170 miles. The company's double-decker buses were especially popular for sight-seeing. By the late 1950s, buses had completely replaced the once-popular electric streetcars. Today, motor buses are a major of form of public transportation throughout Chicago and its suburbs, escorting passengers to and from work and play.
