Bears at Wrigley

Once known as the Chicago Staleys, the Chicago Bears were given their current name in 1922 by George Halas in an effort to link the faltering team to the then more successful Chicago Cubs. Halas negotiated a deal with Bill Veeck, Sr. to use Wrigley Field, then known as Cubs Park, for home games. The two clubs would share the ivied walls for nearly fifty years. During their stay at Wrigley, the Bears would give the City of Chicago eight NFL titles and fans would hail Hall of Famers the likes of Red Grange, Bronko Nagurski, Sid Luckman, Gale Sayers and Dick Butkus. Winning records and stellar perfomances caught the attention of sports fans, and the less-than-38,000 capacity at Wrigley would no longer accomodate the throngs of spectators. After the 1970 football season, the Bears would leave "The Friendly Confines" and call Soldier Field their new home.
