Concert in the Park

The Great Chicago Fire of 1871 was indirectly responsible for the development of Grant Park. Debris from the fire was dumped into Lake Michigan along the shoreline east of Michigan Avenue, and eventually formed the base of most of the park, which today serves as Chicago's front yard. Chicagoans enjoy music under the stars in the summertime, when the park hosts various Blues, Jazz, and Gospel Fests as well as popular and classical music concerts. The Petrillo Music Shell is technically a demountable structure that can be disassembled every fall, although the cost of doing so would be prohibitive, thus escaping the ban on structures in the park.
