Skyline/Monroe Street Parking

Skyline/Monroe Street Parking

The parking lot at Monroe Street and Columbus Drive was actually part of a larger lot which stretched from East Michigan Avenue to Lake Shore Drive. Not long after this photograph was taken, the entire area was covered with grass, trees, and tennis courts, with the parking lots moved underground. The site today is still a "rooftop garden," but was developed at the turn of the 21st century as a public art venue known as Millennium Park. This park attracts visitors worldwide who come to enjoy the fountain, experience the gardens, listen to music, or photograph themselves in front of "Cloud Gate," the reflective sculpture.
